Why Does Bug Spray Have to Feel Like Bug Spray?
We put thought into what we wear outside. What we bring to dinner on the patio. What we pack for the lake. What we use on our skin. Even what our outdoor spaces look and smell like. Then bug spray enters the picture, and suddenly the standards disappear.
For years, outdoor products have trained us to expect a certain experience: harsh smell, utilitarian packaging, that unmistakable “I just put bug spray on” feeling, and something you tolerate because you want to stay outside. Screw it, spray me down. Because when the biting bugs like you, they LOVE you! They've always loved me.
From a child growing up in tropical/wood climates, I know the biting bugs all too well. I remember knowing the normal green can of bug spray would only get me so far. Not only did I hate the toxic smell, but it felt like a layer all over me, and I was always worried about my clothes. Over the years, I found out it could even break down materials. Not to mention, if you're on a date or trying to meet some new people at the party, nothing makes you feel less sexy than a nice layer of strong-smelling bug spray, especially when you're trying to cuddle up...
